Impressive questions to ask your interviewer

 

An interview process entails numerous questions, of which the candidate must ask some. Preparing thoughtful and intelligent questions not only sets you apart from other talented candidates, but also provides you with the chance to determine if the company is a good fit for you.

  1. What are the responsibilities of this role on a day-to-day basis?

You will already know what the role entails from the job description, so the purpose of this question is to assess if there is anything expected from you that is not stated in the job description. It is likely that the interviewer will provide you with extra information regarding how your role will evolve over time.

  1. Does the position/company offer career advancement opportunities?

The company you choose to work for should be one that offers training or career progression opportunities; otherwise you are likely to be stuck in a dead-end role. This question also shows the interviewer that you are ambitious and take your professional development seriously.

  1. In five years, where do you see the company going?

This is a useful question to help you gauge an understanding of how the company is seeking progression. If the company has clear plans for future progression, this will give you an indication of job security.

  1. How would you describe the organisational culture?

The working environment of a company is extremely important, as it is one of the main factors that will determine how long you remain in the company. You want to ideally work for a company that supports your work-life balance, values employee well-being, and creates a culture where you belong.

  1. What do you enjoy most about working for this company?

This question is slightly personal and one which puts your interviewer on the spot. It allows you to gain an insight into your interviewer’s experience and progression within the company. Consider taking it a step further by researching your interviewer’s career history through LinkedIn and asking them how their current role compares to previous roles.

 

The best way to end an interview if the employer doesn’t indicate what happens next is to ask about the next steps.
